At LibraryCon Live 2023, attendees discovered a range of great comics and manga for readers of all ages from independent publishers ABLAZE, Fanbase Press, and Red Comet Press.
From mature takes on the superhero stories they may have grown up with, to other popular genres like horror, historical and literary fiction, or memoir — older readers can read all the comics, too!
A panel discussion featuring representatives from Image Comics, Silver Sprocket, and Yen Press spotlighting some of their favorite comics for older readers. They’ll also offer tips on recommending readalikes to non-comics readers based on their favorites in other media, and downloadable title lists to make it easy to add them to your own collections.
In “How Manga Took Over the World,” a panel of manga experts — Deb Aoki (Mangasplaining), Frederick Jones (Saturday AM), and Kae Winters (TOKYOPOP) — share their insights on everything you need to know about manga to serve new and avid readers alike. This LibraryCon Live session was moderated by LibraryPass’ Guy LeCharles Gonzalez.
Arming yourself with best practices can also help proactively address any legitimate, good faith challenges of specific books from local patrons, while providing a solid foundation for dealing with organized, widespread challenges from groups and politicians with different beliefs about what a library’s mission should be.
